Ingredients

  • 3 medium ripe hass avocados Halved and pitted
  • 0.25 cup sweet yellow onion Finely diced
  • 1 medium roma tomato Finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice Juice of 1 lime
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro Finely chopped, leaves and stems
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper Finely diced, optional for heat
Seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt Plus more to taste

Method
 

  1. Peel the avocados and place the flesh into a medium bowl. Mash gently with a fork, leaving satisfying chunks for texture.
  2. Add the diced yellow onion, roma tomato, minced garlic, fresh lime juice, kosher salt, cilantro, and jalapeño pepper to the bowl.
  3. Fold the ingredients together gently using a spatula or spoon until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Taste the mixture with a tortilla chip and adjust the kosher salt and lime juice as necessary. Garnish with a sprinkle of extra cilantro and serve immediately.

Notes

Expert Tip: To prevent browning during storage, pack any leftovers tightly in a container and pour a half-inch layer of cold water over the top. Pour the water off when ready to serve again.
