  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter softened
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg room temperature
  • 1.5 tsp Vanilla Extract pure
  • 1/4 tsp Almond Extract optional but recommended
  • 1.5 cups All-Purpose Flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
Buttercream Frosting
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter softened
  • 1.5 cups Powdered Sugar sifted
  • 1 tbsp Heavy Cream or milk
  • Valentine Sprinkles hearts and pearls

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8x8 pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract, beating until well combined.
  4. Slowly mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Press dough evenly into the pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are pale gold.
  6. Let cool completely. Whip frosting ingredients and spread over the bars. Top with sprinkles.

Notes

For the cleanest cuts, refrigerate the bars for 30 minutes after frosting before slicing with a warm knife.
