Ingredients

Strawberry Base
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries hulled and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or simple syrup, to taste
Matcha Layer
  • 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha sifted
  • 1/4 cup hot water around 175°F (80°C), not boiling
Assembly
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice whole milk, oat milk, or coconut milk
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method

  1. In a tall glass or small bowl, add the chopped strawberries and maple syrup. Muddle them together until the berries are broken down into a thick puree.
  2. In a separate small bowl with a spout, sift in the matcha powder to remove clumps. Add the hot water and whisk vigorously in a 'W' motion using a bamboo whisk or electric frother until fully dissolved and frothy.
  3. To assemble, spoon the strawberry puree into the bottom of your serving glass. Fill the glass entirely with ice cubes.
  4. Slowly pour the milk over the ice to create the second layer.
  5. Finally, gently pour the frothy matcha over the milk. Stir the layers together immediately before drinking. Enjoy!

Notes

Expert Tip: Always pack your glass with ice to the very top. The ice acts as a buffer that helps keep the milk and tea layers perfectly separated when pouring.
