Halloween recipes · Simple seasonal food
Witch hat cookies are a quick no-bake Halloween treat made by stacking a pointed chocolate candy on a round chocolate-covered cookie. A narrow orange frosting band gives each tiny hat a festive finish. The contrast between the flat brim and tall pointed top makes them recognizable without elaborate decorating skills.
Before you start
Choose cookies that are wide enough to leave a visible brim around the chocolate kiss. Fully chocolate-covered sandwich cookies give the most uniform look. Unwrap all the chocolates before opening the frosting so the assembly can move smoothly, and use a tray that fits in your refrigerator if the kitchen is warm.

Witch Hat Cookies Recipe
Ingredients
- 24 round chocolate-covered sandwich cookies, about 2 inches wide
- 24 unwrapped chocolate kisses
- ⅓ cup (80 g) thick ready-to-use orange decorating frosting
Instructions
- Line a large tray with parchment. Set the cookies flat side down in a single layer, leaving enough space around each one to turn the tray without touching the decorations.
- Spoon the orange frosting into a small piping bag fitted with a narrow round tip. If using a food-safe zip-top bag, snip only a very small corner so the frosting comes out as a thin line.
- Pipe a small mound of frosting onto the center of one cookie. Place a chocolate kiss over it and press down gently until the candy sits securely, with its point facing straight up.
- Pipe a narrow frosting ring around the base of the kiss to create the hat band. Add a tiny square buckle at the front if desired, keeping the lines short and the frosting layer thin.
- Repeat with the remaining cookies. Leave the tray undisturbed for 15 minutes so the frosting can firm slightly. Move the cookies with a flat spatula rather than lifting them by the chocolate point.
Tips for witch hat cookies
Thick decorating frosting works better than a runny glaze, which can slide off the chocolate coating. If your first band spreads, chill the frosting briefly before continuing. A simple band is enough; the buckle is optional. Keep the cookies away from direct sunlight so the chocolate points do not soften or lean.

Storage and make-ahead
Use the storage instructions on the frosting label as your guide. With shelf-stable decorating frosting, keep the assembled cookies airtight in a cool place for up to 3 days, or refrigerate if the label requires it. Arrange in a single layer or use a deep container with room above the pointed tops. Avoid stacking.
